Welcome to the IOW Olympic Taekwondo Website

Welcome to the Isle of Wight Olympic Taekwondo Club website. Through this site you will be able to find out more about our club and keep up to date with the latest club news and events.

The Isle of Wight Olympic Taekwondo Club is a club based in Cowes. We are affiliated with the BTCB which  is a member of the World Taekwondo Federation and the British Olympic Association and is responsible for all aspects of Olympic style Taekwondo in the UK.

We are a friendly club who always welcome new members and those who are interested in coming along to see if Taekwondo is the martial art for them.

What is Taekwondo?

TaeKwondo is a martial art from Korea, and literally translates to 'the way of the hand and foot'.  Taekwondo is now recognised as one of the events of the Olympic games.

At the Isle of Wight Olympic Taekwondo Club we teach the WTF style Taekwondo, and include all aspects of the art in our lessons, for example:

:: Improving fitness, speed, strength and flexibility.
:: Kicks, blocks and strikes
:: Patterns
:: Board breaking
:: Self-defensive and knife defensive
:: Sparring

The general principles, or tenants, of Taekwondo are:

Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and an Indomitable Spirit.

Taekwondo lessons can help to improve self-confidence, motivation and other benefits relating to the mind not just the body.
